The Sociopathic Heiress
My foster parents always complained they would have been better off raising a pig for slaughter, so I simply helped them become actual roast pork.
I stand outside the burning house, warming my hands against the flames. Inside, Dennis and Janet are screaming, but I don't feel fear. I feel efficient. Just like with Director Bernice. She called me a freeloader, so I pushed her into a grain silo and let the corn fill her lungs. Now, shell never have to worry about going hungry again.
People call it murder. I call it community service. I really am just too helpful for my own good.
Chapter 1
The butler sent to collect me made no effort to hide his disdain. "Ms. Vesper, please come in."
I smirked, stepping into the gilded cage that was supposed to be my birthright. Four people sat in the living room: my biological parents, my brother, and the fake heiress who had occupied my life for twenty years. Kayla's eyes were rimmed red, looking like a frightened rabbit as she clung tightly to Theresas hand.
"Vesper, I know you don't like me," Kayla said. "I'll leave right now. I won't be an eyesore. Don't worry, I won't take anything from the Mo family."
She stood up pitifully, looking as if she were about to burst into tears. It seemed like she might faint from grief at any second.
Theresa immediately hugged her, heartbroken. "Kayla, don't say such silly things! This is your home!"
Marcus looked at me with a dark expression. "Vesper, your sister is timid. Don't scare her."
Brody stepped up to shield Kayla, guarding her like a mother hen protecting its chick. "Who are you giving that attitude to the moment you walk in? You think you can kick Kayla out? Look at yourselfyou're not worthy!"
I paused. I hadn't said a word since walking in. But that didn't matter. As the most helpful person around, how could I let my sister suffer?
So, I stepped around Brody and stood directly in front of Kayla. She looked at me timidly, but a hint of triumph flashed in her eyes. In the next second, I seized her by the collar.
"Ah!"
Rrrrip!
The sound of tearing fabric filled the air. I tore her exquisite dress open with force. Buttons popped like gunshots; silk screamed as it shredded.
Kayla screamed, scrambling frantically to cover herself. But I didn't stop. Jacket, skirt, underwear. I threw them onto the floor, one by one.
Seconds later, she stood stark naked in the center of the living room. Her skin was blindingly white. She was stunned. Everyone was stunned.
I yanked the front door open and shoved her out, completely in the buff. "You're welcome."
Before the door closed, I saw her face twist in horror. I had also spotted the reporters hiding in the bushes outside the villa, their cameras ready. The flashbulbs erupted like a supernova.
She sobbed so hard she looked ready to pass out. Compared to her delicate, performative weeping earlier, this was raw, ugly crying. Snot and tears flowed together.
Theresa held her, cooing over her precious darling. Marcus pointed at me, his finger shaking with rage. "You ungrateful wretch! How dare you..."
Brody was furious, charging over as if he wanted to hit me.
I took a step back and blinked innocently. "What did I do wrong? Kayla said she wanted to leave, so I helped her. She said she wouldn't take a penny or a single thing with her. I ensured she didn't even take her clothes. Am I not considerate enough?"
Kaylas sobs choked in her throat. She wanted to argue, but she couldn't get a single word out. She had secretly called those reporters squatting outside. They were supposed to snap photos of me being kicked out of the Mo family in disgrace.
But now? I could already picture tomorrows headlines: Mo Family's Fake Heiress Exposes Herself in Public, Suspected Mental Breakdown.
Chapter 2
Kayla looked like she wanted to pass out right then and there. How could she show her face in public now? Watching her face flush red gave me a sense of pure delight. Helping others really does bring happiness.
The Mo family spent a fortune trying to suppress the news, but the photos leaked anyway. Kayla hid at home, terrified to step outside. Her social media, once filled with praise for "The Most Beautiful Heiress," had turned into a cesspool of filth and insults.
Heartbroken, Theresa tried to cheer her up with jewelry fresh from the auction house. But Kayla just hid in her room, refusing to eat or drink. That changed when her nannyand biological motherShirley, made her entrance.
Rumor had it she had worked for the Mo family for over twenty years and was deeply trusted. I guessed their bond ran deep. Otherwise, after her scheme of swapping the babies was exposed, the Mo family wouldn't have just let it slide. They had even sent her on a vacation to help her unwind.
The moment she got back, she went straight to Kayla's room. During dinner, she suddenly dropped to her knees in front of me with a loud thud. Tears streamed down her aged face.
"Miss Vesper, it's all my fault! I was out of my mind back then. I secretly took you away and swapped you with Kayla If you want to blame someone, blame me! Don't blame Kayla, she's innocent! I deserve to die!"
Theresas eyes instantly reddened as she helped Shirley up. "Get up, quickly. Its been so many years. No one blames you!"
Marcus sighed. "Youve made up for it by taking such good care of Kayla all these years."
Brody sneered. "If it weren't for Nanny Shirley, who knows where Kayla would be suffering right now."
Every sentence revolved around Kayla. If you didn't know better, youd think Kayla was their biological daughter. As for methe one who was swapped, trafficked, and suffered in Kaylas placethey chose to selectively forget.
I calmly continued picking at my food. Shirley stole a glance at me, a flicker of triumph in her eyes. She was deliberately hinting at Kaylas supreme status.
Unfazed, I smiled. "Nanny Shirley, do you really want to atone for your sins that badly?"
She paused, then nodded hurriedly. "Yes, yes, I'm willing to work like a dog"
"That's great." I cut her off, pulled out my phone, and dialed 911. "Hello, police? I'd like to report a crime. Twenty years ago, an infant was trafficked. I suspect a large human trafficking ring is involved. The suspect is right in front of me."
The entire table went silent. Shirleys face turned deathly pale.
Marcus shot up from his chair. "Vesper, what is this nonsense?!"
I tilted my head, feigning confusion. "Didn't Nanny Shirley say she wanted to atone? Sending her where she belongs is the only true atonement. I'm just helping others."
Reporters arrived too. As Shirley was handcuffed and taken away, she was still screaming. "Kayla! Save me, Kayla!"
Kayla tried to rush forward, but Brody held her back tightly. Her face was covered in tears, looking pitiful and delicate. "Mom! Dad! Say something!"
Marcuss face was livid. Theresa clutched her chest, looking like she was about to faint.
I watched the police car fade into the distance from the second-floor window. My expression was indifferent. My phone buzzed. It was from the number my best friend had used before he died. I had set up a scheduled message.
"Vesper, revenge is a dish best served cold. Slicing them apart, piece by piece, hurts the most."
I turned off the screen. Yeah. This was just the beginning.
The Mo family became the biggest joke in the city. Kayla hid for a full week before finally coming downstairs one morning. Her eyes were swollen like walnuts.
"Dad, Mom, Brody I'm scared to go to school. My classmates are all laughing at me"
Chapter 3
Theresa held her close, her heart aching. "If you don't want to go, then don't. We'll hire a home tutor. As long as you're happy, Kayla, how about Mom takes you shopping today?"
Marcus nodded in agreement. "We'll discuss the rest after the storm passes."
The front door burst open. A man in a sharp suit strode in. He was tall, handsome, and wore an expression of pure arrogance.
Kayla's eyes lit up immediately. "Chris!"
She threw herself into the man's arms, crying even louder. All the grievances shed felt over the past few days poured out in that moment.
Christianthe sole heir of the Zhao family and Kaylas fianchad just returned from abroad. He gently patted Kaylas back, comforting her, but when he looked up at me, his gaze instantly turned ice-cold.
"So, youre Vesper?" "I heard you started bullying Kayla the moment you got here? And you called the police on Shirley? She raised Kayla for twenty yearshow can you be so heartless?"
I sat on the sofa, meticulously peeling an apple. The strip of apple peel snapped. I sighed in regret.
Facing his intrusion into the Mo Estate and his relentless questioning of methe real daughterMarcus and Theresa remained silent. Brody stood by with his arms crossed, watching the show.
I set the knife down and looked up at him. "Kayla was the one who said she wasn't worthy and wanted to leave the Mo family. Shirley was the one who said she wanted to atone for her sins. I was merely helping them out!"
"You shameless bitch! What kind of bullshit is that?!" Clearly not expecting my response, Christian exploded in a rage. "Get on your knees and apologize to Kayla right now. Otherwise, I'll make sure you can't survive in this city."
Although Kayla put on a wronged expression, tugging at his sleeve and whimpering, "Chris, don't be like this" her eyes were clearly saying: Hurry up, make her kneel. As for the fact that I, the biological daughter, was being bullied like this while the three members of the Mo family chose to stay silent as miceit was truly an eye-opening spectacle.
Christian hugged Kayla tightly, his heart aching for her. "Kayla, you're just too kind-hearted. You're so scared now that you don't even dare to leave the house or go to school. As your fianc, how can I let you be this sad!"
Kayla threw herself into his arms, acting touched.
I rolled my eyes, speechless. I stood up and wiped my hands. "Mr. Zhao really cares about my sister's education, just as always."
He frowned. "What do you mean?"
I pulled out my phone and opened a file. "Three years ago, for the special admission to Apex University, the SAT cutoff score was 1550. Kayla's transcript shows a perfect 1550. A miracle, considering her actual score in the archives was a dismal 890. That's a difference of 660 points. How did she manage that?"
The living room fell terrifyingly silent.
Marcus shot a sharp look at Kayla. "Kayla, what is going on?!"
Kayla looked terrified, her lips trembling. "I I don't know"
Christian clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. "Vesper! You dare forge documents to slander my fiance right in front of me, the Zhao family heir?! Do you have a death wish?!"
The threat in his last four words was unmistakable. But who am I?! Im a helpful little angel!
I smiled. "Whether it's a forgery or not, a simple check will prove it. Ive already sent the materials to the Department of Education and Apex Universitys Disciplinary Committee. Oh, and a few media outlets, too."
I looked at Kayla with a sincere tone. "Don't be scared, sister. Now you don't have to go to school, so you won't be embarrassed anymore. Aren't I thoughtful? No need to thank me!"
Kayla's legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the floor.
Christian flew into a rage, raising his hand to slap me. "You little bit"
He didn't finish his sentence.
Chapter 4
An aged but commanding voice came from the doorway. "Boy of the Zhao family, you dare raise your hand in my house? Do you take the Mo family for dead?"
Everyone froze. An elderly man in a traditional Tang suit stood at the door. His hair was gray, but his spirit was vigorous, leaning on a rosewood cane carved with a dragon's head. His eyes were as sharp as a hawk's. The head of the Mo family, Old Mr. MoMontgomery. My biological grandfather. He was finally back.
Brody was the first to react. His face lit up with joy as he rushed over to support the old man. "Grandpa! Why are you back so early? You have no ideathe moment Vesper came back, she turned the whole house upside down!"
Montgomery ignored him. He strode to his seat at the head of the table and sat down, his cane striking the floor with a heavy thud.
"Christian, you are not a member of the Mo family, yet you are here shouting threats of violence." "Who gave you the audacity?"
Christians expression turned ugly, but he forced a respectful tone. "Grandpa Montgomery, it was Vesper who bullied Kayla first."
Kayla immediately threw herself at the old man's legs, weeping with a fragile, tragic beauty that would break anyone's heart. "Grandpa, youre finally back! Kayla missed you so much. Its all my fault for making my sister unhappy. She didnt hesitate to tarnish the family reputation just to get revenge on me."
Brody quickly chimed in. "Grandpa, you used to dote on Kayla the most. You have to seek justice for her! Vesper is vicious; shes been targeting Kayla ever since she got here! Kayla has been bullied so much she doesn't even dare to leave the house."
Everyone waited for the patriarch to speak. Waiting for him to scold me, punish me, and kick me out.
Montgomery remained silent for a moment. Then, he raised his hand. He slapped Kayla hard across the face.
Smack!
The sound was crisp and loud. Kayla was stunned. She clutched her face, looking at him in disbelief. "Grandpa you hit me?"
Christian was both shocked and furious. "Grandpa Montgomery! How can you treat Kayla like this?! Just because she isn't your biological granddaughter, youre this biased?! Don't forget the marriage alliance between the Zhao and Mo families."
Montgomery sneered, cutting him off. "Marriage alliance? From this moment on, the engagement is void."
Marcus shot up from his seat. "Dad! You can't do that! Weve been allies with the Zhao family for so many years, and what about that project
