My Fiancée’s Assistant Stole My Seat—So I Dumped Her

My mom called me at my top-secret organization, demanding I come home for a blind date.

The candidate sounded idealgorgeous beyond belief and a well-known entrepreneur in the area.

Before I left, my superior personally instructed the airline to keep my identity confidential.

I boarded the plane at the agreed time and found my assigned seat. Just as I was about to sit down, someone shoved me hard from behind.

Before I could even react, a man stepped forward, arrogance written all over his face, and waved a wad of cash at me.

I want this seat. Take the money and get lost.

I swallowed my anger and said sharply, I reserved this seat in advance. You have no right to kick me out.

He scoffed at my protest, his eyes were filled with disdain.

No right? Listen, Im the personal assistant to President Dixton. In California, even the birds flying in the sky answer the Dixton family. You got that?

I stared at him, momentarily stunned, then calmly took out my phone and dialed my fiance.

I just heard from someone at your company that the Dixton family practically rules California. Is that how it is?

If it werent for my mother, I wouldnt have even bothered making the call. A seat dispute like this couldn't be solved with cash alone. If the guy had shown a shred of decency, I mightve let it go.

But before I could say more, her voice came through the lineimpatient and cold.

Im busy. Hurry up and say what you need to say.

I raised my brows. Miss Dixton, maybe ask your assistant what he thinks hes doing.

I was about to hand the phone to him when the call abruptly ended.

I stood there, stunned.

Is this how rich people behave?

The man who had stolen my seat burst out laughing, as if he couldnt contain his amusement.

Tsk, I thought you were someone important. It turns out President Dixton cant even be bothered to answer your call!

Smirking, he sized me up and saw that I was just in my early twenties, dressed simply, and didnt take me seriously at all.

You seriously still think you're in the right here? I shot back, pointing toward a nearby flight attendant. There are air marshals on board. If you keep this up, Ill report you.

The mention of police only made him more smug.

Kid, do yourself a favor and give it up.

This whole airline? Its owned by the Dixton family. You think anyone here is going to help you?

He was getting more agitated by the second, practically spitting in my face as he ranted.

I clenched my fists and instinctively took a step back.

You keep name-dropping the Dixton family. Now Im curiouswhat exactly is your relationship with them?

No sooner had I spoken than he shoved me again.

What the hell does that have to do with you? Get out of my face!

If you dont move, Ill make sure youre thrown off this plane!

Id spent most of my adult life secluded in the organization, rarely dealing with civilianslet alone arrogant thugs like him. But now, my patience was wearing dangerously thin.

Youre already taking my seatnow youre threatening me too? Whats next, you're gonna crown yourself emperor?

The words had barely left my mouth when gasps and murmurs erupted throughout the cabin.

Damn! This kid has got gutshe just mouthed off to Assistant Wesley! Hes dead meat!

Its just a seat! Why cause trouble? Does he even know who Wesley is? Hes President Dixtons right-hand man!

Talk about bad luck. Of all the people to bump into, he just had to pick a fight with Wesley!

As the murmurs around us grew louder, the assistants smug expression deepened.

You little brat, did you just dare insult me? Looks like youve got a death wish!

His threats didnt faze me at all. In fact, I almost laughed.

So you're the chairmans assistant? Then let me give you a piece of advicewatch your mouth.

If you really push me, not even your boss will be able to clean up the mess.

What the hell did you just say to me?!

After cursing me out a few more times, he still seemed unsatisfied. He rolled up his sleeves and lunged at me again.

Oh? So this is how a personal assistant to the chairman of Meyer Group behaves? Cant get your way, so now you want to fight?

He threw several wild slaps in my direction, but not one landed. Frustration twisted his face.

You damn punk! Just try dodging one more time! I dare you! he seethed.

You want me to call President Dixton right now?!

Despite his constant provocations, I didnt retaliate. I stayed calm, kept my hands down.

Not because I was scaredbut because before I left my post, my superior had warned me repeatedly.

Everything you say or do outside represents the image of the organization. Avoid all conflicts.

Besides, I wasnt the kind to get into fights. But if I did strike, its lethal.

Wesley, the assistant, took my silence for cowardice and swung another punch at me.

Just then, a sharp voice rang out from behind.

Stop right there!

Wesley, youre my assistant. How dare you act like this in public?

The crowd parted as a stunning young woman in a fiery red dress, flanked by bodyguards, walked briskly toward us.

You must be Aubrey, I said, studying her closely.

I had to admitmy mom had a good taste. The womans figure was flawless, and she had an imposing aura. But if I had to nitpick, itd be that her eyes were as cold as ice.

Miss Dixton, nice to meet you. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Camden

No need.

Before I could finish, Aubrey raised a hand, cutting me off impatiently.

Weve met. I can already tellwere not compatible. Get off the plane.

For a moment, I thought Id misheard her.

It took multiple layers of approval just to secure a half-day off from my organization. And now, right after arrivingbefore Ive even finished introducing myselftheyre already sending me away?

Was this a joke?

My temper flared instantly.

You must be the blind date my mother arrangedMiss Aubrey, correct?

You wont even let me speak, and now youre telling me to go back? Dont you think thats a bit rude?

She sneered. Rude?

Why dont you go look in the mirror and ask yourselfdo you really think youre good enough for me?

She gave me a once-over, her eyes filled with disdain.

I dont know what my father was thinking, arranging a marriage with someone as useless as you.

Her words detonated like a bomb in the cabin.

What? Hes Aubreys fianc? Thats insane!

This guy looks like a total nobody. Does he really think he can marry a goddess like Aubrey? Keep dreaming!

President Dixton is the dream woman of every man in California! I, Logan Smith, will personally protest this engagement!

As the voices around me grew louder and more chaotic, I stood there, completely dumbfounded.

When did I ever say I wanted to marry her?

Even if I did want to, Id still need approval from my superiors at my organization first.

Fine, fine. Im the loser, and youre the rich heiress. Happy now? I spat sarcastically. But since President Dixton isnt interested in me, Ill just leave. However...

I suddenly changed the tone of my voice.

This first-class seat was reserved in advance by my superior through the airline. No matter how much money you offer, you have no right to sit here.

As soon as I said that, Assistant Wesley jumped out like a loyal watchdog.

You little punk, still putting on a show in front of President Dixton, huh?

You think you have a say on a plane that belongs to the Dixton family? Who the hell do you think you are?

Only then did I truly understand the meaning of the term bootlicker.

Assistant Wesley, Im just trying to sit in the seat that was assigned to me. What does the ownership of the plane have to do with me? I frowned.

Before I could finish, Aubrey grew visibly annoyed and pulled out her phone on the spot. Whats the big deal about a first-class seat? Ill pay ten times the price.

Ill give you a hundred thousand. Take the money and disappear. Dont let me see your face again, she continued.

I curved my lips into a faint smile and gave her a half-hearted nod.

Well, since President Dixton is being so generous, I suppose I can reluctantly accept.

But just as I turned to walk away, Assistant Wesley suddenly shouted after me.

Stop right there, you little brat!

I paused mid-step and turned slowly.

What now? Changed your mind, Assistant Wesley?

He gave me a smug grin, then leaned in to whisper something into Aubreys ear.

The next second, Californias so-called youngest billionaire snapped.

Camden, did you just lay a hand on my people?

Judging by Wesleys expression, I could already guess he had just painted me as the villain. And I had to admithis tactic of using someone else to do the dirty work was brutally effective.

Given how Aubrey already viewed me, I knew no amount of explaining would help. So I didnt bother trying.

Whether I hit him or not doesnt matter anymore. Just tell mewhat do you want to do about it?

She hadnt expected me to be so direct. For a moment, she actually looked a little stunned.

What do I want? Of course, I want an apology!

I raised an eyebrow, a faint smile tugging at my lips.

An apology? Yeah, thats not happening. Maybe you two can come up with a different solution.

One million! Wesley suddenly jumped in gleefully.

As President Dixtons personal assistant, Im involved in multimillion-dollar deals daily.

Just now, you pushed me, and Im not feeling too well. Youll have to take responsibility!

Gasps erupted around us.

Even Aubrey looked caught off guard.

Wesley, isnt one million a bit... excessive?

Even if you went to the hospital and did a full-body scan, it wouldnt cost that much.

But Wesley just waved her off.

No, no, President Dixton, youre thinking too small.

As your assistant, I was assaulted on your familys own plane. The damage isnt just physicalits to our reputation!

The fact that were only asking for one million means were actually going easy on him.

Aubrey paused, considering it for a moment, then gave a slow nod.

Fine. One million it is. Ill pay it.

Before they could think twice, I spoke up.

Deal.

Instantly, every pair of eyes on the plane locked onto me.

Some people thought I was just bluffing to save face.

Others assumed I was playing dumbpretending to be a sheep when I was really a tiger. While the rest were just enjoying the drama from the sidelines.

But honestly, I didnt care what they thought.

What mattered was that someone had tried to steal my seat.

Sure, she offered over ten times the price. But it was her attitude that really pissed me off.

Now that weve settled the whole pushing incident, shall we talk about the seat?

I shifted the tone suddenly, lips curving into a subtle smirk.

My trip was registered with the airline ahead of time. You think anyone can just waltz in and take this seat?

My words had barely landed before the cabin erupted in laughter.

This guy is crazy, right? Its just first class. Why the hell would you need to report your travel plans?

Exactly! The whole airline belongs to the Dixton family! Whos he gonna report tohimself? Lol. That's nuts.

I slowly swept my gaze around the crowd, my eyes turning cold.

All of you keep saying the Dixton family is rich and powerful, that they practically own the airline, right? I scoffed.

Well then, let me askcan President Dixton stop the plane midair?

I grinned, just slightly.

She cant, but I can. I shrugged.

Cut the crap! someone snapped. Do you know how many clearances it takes to ground a plane?

Only leaders from the capital could pull that off. Who the hell do you think you are?

Wesley was practically fuming now, his face was red with rage. You punk, are you trying to back out of paying the money?

Let me warn youif you cant cough up that million, youre not getting off this plane alive!

Twice.

In less than an hour, someone threatened my life twice.

In all my years at the organization, I never even dreamed someone would dare threaten me.

Enough was enough.

Without another word, I took out my phone and called my superiorright in front of everyone.

Hello, sir? Its Camden.

A warm chuckle came through the line.

You brat, whyre you calling now? You met the girl? Are you satisfied?

I glanced at Aubrey, then gave a low chuckle of my own.

Sir, the blind date... thats a long story.

But theres something urgent I need to report first.

Someone tried to buy my seat.

...What did you just say?!

I could practically hear the disbelief spilling through the phone.

Youre not joking, are you? That seat was specially reservedits not for sale under any circumstances!

I stayed calm and unhurried.

Well, I wouldn't dare joke about this, Sir.

That's not all. This man says I pushed him and wants me to pay a million in compensation. He said I cant leave the plane if I dont pay.

I gave him a quick rundown of what happened.

There was a crash on the other endprobably a shattered teacup.

Who is it?!

Just as I was about to respond, Wesley snatched the phone from my hand.

Hey! You must be the guy this brat called for backup, right?

Heres the dealif I dont see that one million before we land, start preparing his body bag!

For a few seconds, there was dead silence on the line.

My superiorwho had lived through decades of political stormswas stunned that someone dared speak to him like that.

So you stole Camdens seat and now youre demanding he pay you?

Wesley, still clueless, scoffed with the same cocky swagger.

Cut the nonsense. Just say whether youre paying or not.

Even through the phone, I could feel the fire radiating from my superiors voice.

Pay? A million? Thats too little.

How about I pay you a hundred million?

You just waitI'll have someone send the money over right now!

Wesley, clearly shocked by how furious my superior was, snapped back without missing a beat.

You old bastard, who are you trying to scare with that crap? Compensate a billion?

If youve got the guts to pay, Ive got the guts to take it. Just make sure its cash!

After hanging up the call, Wesley turned smugly to his bossAubreylooking as proud as a dog bringing home a bone.

Watching that ridiculous display, I couldnt hold back. I burst into laughter right then and there.

Miss Dixton, you really picked a top-tier assistant.

Not only does he yell at my superior, but from what Ive seen, there probably isnt another man in the entire country whod dare speak like that.

Wesley, completely unfazed by my sarcasm, snorted.

Hmph, I dont care who your boss is. The plane is about to take off. So get your ass off it!

But instead of getting angry, I smiled.

Take off? Without my permission, this plane isnt moving an inch today. You believe that?

Right as my words fell, someone in the crowd shouted.

Look outside!

Heads whipped toward the windows.

A convoy of heavily armed armored cash trucks was speeding toward the runway in formation.
