Alpha's Tears after My Death
My Alpha was in another location, enjoying a meal with the she-wolf he truly desired, while they were chewing on my insides and severing parts of my body, laughing at how Moon Howlers' Luna's blood was flowing like a river. As I drew near death from the agonizing sound of my wolf's howl, he was commemorating the tenth anniversary of their initial encounter.
Survival was my goal. Until I could hardly keep my head above water. "Excuse me, my Alpha..." I beg you, rescue me.
Unfortunately, my pleading was ignored. Our mindlink served no purpose if he was uninterested in responding to my cries.
"Please, Aurelia, stop manipulating me in this way. Tonight, I will not be returning home."
Got it. This useless partner would be unconcerned if I were to die in front of him. It could have been better in the end... Maybe I should have just died instead of relying on this ineffectual Alpha to rescue me from this tiny hellhole.
Suddenly, after three lunar cycles, the Alpha and the entire Consul of the Moon Howlers Pack were looking into a string of killings in and around Winter Town, the pack's home. All the wolves were talking about the horrific killings.
At the heart of the pack's gathering place stood Alpha Reymond, flanked by the elders, his Beta, and the healers. Until her very last breath, the victim fought for survival. Once we've solved this case, we can send her soul to the Moon Goddess with peace of mind.
He was analyzing the circumstances surrounding the death of his own mate, whom he despised and never loved, yours truly, without realizing it.
--- Who would have guessed that a piece of me was among the debris tossed onto the piled-up rubbish? Impressive, wasn't I?
There was an unsettling stillness in the town as the night fell. Things had always happened to Winter that made headlines, but that particular night was far scarier than any of the others. As he paced the deserted roadside, an old man who had transformed into a wolf was startled. He could not stand the smell, which was like a dead rat decaying in the air, and it got worse as he got closer.
A piece of myself was discovered at that very moment. A human leg bone was found in the black bag amidst the piled trash.
As soon as word got to the pack's consul, I found myself supervising everyone's efforts to unearth additional cadavers around town.
It was like something out of a nightmare at that moment. The Moon Howlers Consul was overly preoccupied with identifying the killer they had found.
Can we see the beginnings of pack wars here? "So far, I haven't noticed any suspicious activity from the nearby packs," one of the wise men said.
Who am I kidding?
In the same moonlight, I could make out no one in a mirror. No, I wasn't present. There was no reflection of me.
Have I truly transformed into a Lunar Wraith? An enraged ghost too wounded to venture beyond the river valley in search of a new existence. I was a Lunar Wraith, and I longed for peace and justice more than anything.
Just as one of the pack members had announced, "The Alpha is here," my mate, Alpha Reymond Thunderheart, was sitting there.
The spot where they discovered a fragment of me was on the side of the road. They examine the blood splatters and the black bag containing a piece of my flesh. My heart was literally pounding because of how utterly screwed up it was.
The horror show that was unfolding before my friend was shocking even to him. "This is absolutely shocking," he whispered, his face turning pale.
At the same time, Harry Sage, the pack's Beta, was personally checking everything.
"Alright, let's dissect it all. Nothing can be left behind.
Like the astute wolf that he was, Reymond then meticulously detailed everything. "Look at these spills? The victim appears to have been killed by claws. Are those scribbles on the wall? At all times, she must have been wide awake.
As far as the pack's healer is concerned, our victim is a young woman under the age of thirty, the Beta said while ruffling his hair. Who did she mess with to get herself into this jam?
At that very second, the hard-thinking Reymond had a suspicion. "This isn't just some savage killing. Someone is really resentful and they're only going to get worse. We will not tolerate the involvement of any pack in this. A price would be paid for their transgressions.
You won't believe what happened next. In this, he was correct. I could see that Reymond's instincts were more acute than his claws when he transformed into his wolf form, despite the abundance of criticism directed towards him.
When he finally understood everything, I would give anything to see his expression. In retrospect, maybe being a Lunar Wraith wasn't so terrible. Did the Moon Goddess send the sliver of my spirit here to see my partner's pain?
A ring was discovered at the crime scene shortly thereafter by the Consul.
We put a seal on the discovered ring. The evidence is crucial," remarked one of the pack Consul members.
Without showing any emotion, Reymond took up the sealed ring upon hearing that. Harry, who was standing right next to the Alpha, froze as he stared at the bloodstained ring.
"Alpha, do you recognize this ring?" he whispered when his curiosity got the best of him. You remember the Luna mateship ring, right?
But as he examined the item, Reymond showed no signs of caring. He took a quick look at its features and took note of every detail, even the part on the inside that wasn't engraved.
I'd say it's essentially the same style. Do you remember how common these rings were in that era?" Over his shoulder, he shrugged.
Left alone after the Consul had left, Reymond lingered at the scene, deep in contemplation. He looked down after some thought, and I could tell he was attempting to communicate with me through our mindlink because of the changes in his eye color.
Since I was already herea solitary Lunar Wraithwho would respond to him?
Standing there, his eyes glowing as he tried to channel the power bestowed upon him, he failed time and time again.
"Oh no. Did I just say that she isn't listening to me? She just has tantrums all the time!
The mateship rings we possessed, according to Reymond's certainty, bore inscriptions within.
But seriously, my Alpha, his acute intuition and Alpha brain were useless since he had no idea that metal engravings could be easily removed. I removed our initials in just six months!
Members of the Moon Howlers Consul were exerting every effort to determine the case's resolution. In addition to their desperation, their primary concern was determining whether the other pack was responsible for the crime. Therefore, they needed to have war supplies on hand.
All day and night long, under Reymond's direction, they searched and investigated. My lifeless body, meanwhile, lay motionless on the table.
As the hollowness of my pit of the stomach intensified, I averted my gaze. Seeing my body treated with such contempt would be unbearable for me. My skin was pale and covered in blood stains. Its owner would have gone unnoticed by everyone.
"See, the victim's head is gone, her fingers too, and there's a chunk missing from her ankle," Beta Harry exclaimed, abruptly pointing to my body. I never thought I would see blood, using my own body as a point of reference.
The Goddess must have sensed my anguish even though I was already a Lunar Wraith, a spirit invisible to the living.
Meanwhile, Reymond remained quiet, likely contemplating the reasons behind the amputation of my head and the subsequent removal of my limbs.
He then asked, "Did you already find out this person's identity aside from the fact that she's a she-wolf?"
But Harry shook his head in disappointment. We need to hear the pack healers' thoughts on this first. Additionally, they are exerting all of their efforts to conduct an investigation. However, our Consul members are currently out and about in Winter; we will swiftly summon them here to attempt body identification if anyone reports a missing relative.
Upon finishing his sentence, I noticed that my partner nodded, but he barely looked at me. How grossed out was he? This worthless Alpha must be ashamed! If he had simply paid attention to my voice while I used the mindlink, this would never have happened!
This is unbearable for me. I couldn't bear it if he ignored my lifeless body on the table, the ring he had purchased for me, and Luna, his beloved pet. He must be smelling me, right? Why had he brought his wolf along? Did the natural aromas outweigh the stench of my dead body?
Reymond later at the meeting voiced his outlandish theory.
I think I've found a pattern in the murders that have occurred recently. Near the Silver River Pack, similar events are taking place. They have a dark obsession with gutting, bleeding, and dismembering human bodies. I will never forgive them if they are really guilty of those crimes.
Upon hearing the Alpha bring up the rival pack from the neighboring town, Harry's eyebrows arched in surprise. Something came to him out of nowhere.
"Little River Silver... Alpha, are you implying that our rivalry is at the root of this? Could this be dangerous? While furrowing his brow, he inquired.
With a nod, Reymond responded, "Pretty much."
Harry knew exactly what to do the second he heard about the Beta. Swiftly, he issued a command to the pack's members and the influential elders.
Observe the area surrounding the Silver River Pack. Do your best to gather as much data as possible. And you certainly shouldn't be caught!
Following the gathering, one of the pack members approached Reymond. Alpha, you are brilliant. Imagine if no one had connected the rival pack to this case. You have to be right about this given how hostile they are toward us.
I desperately wanted to join the discussion at that moment. What good would a she-wolf that has died do?
No need to rush, Reymond. I would remain by your side until the day I saw your reaction when you understood everythingit didn't matter if I was a Lunar Wraith.
In reaction to the pack member, Reymond merely nodded indifferently. He was sick of hearing praise for his intelligence, leadership, good looks, wealth, and everything else since he was a little boy.
"Alpha, wait!" He was abruptly halted by the young wolf. As the pack member was about to speak, Reymond's long, curly hair sprung out of his jacket.
A mischievous grin spread across the face of the young wolf. "This must be the Luna's hair."
Reymond, on the other hand, spoke with an icy tone. "None of your business." Snatching the hair, he stuffed it into his pocket and marched off.
The member of the pack who was left behind rubbed his nose awkwardly.
I really wanted to pat him on the back, but alas, my hand went right through him.
I wanted to tell him right then and there that my short, straight hair would be obvious to him if he could just find my head. It was Isolde's. It was resting on their Alpha's shoulder.
Remembering the woman made me gag and left a bad taste in my mouth.
The evening I was murdered... While I was on my knees pleading for salvation and sobbing uncontrollably, Isolde was embracing my mate and abandoning that stray hair.
The pain was unbearable. His indifference to my three-day absence was something I despised. His complete lack of concern for my whereabouts was something I despised. He showed zero concern and showed zero concern that I was out there, that his Luna was in danger.
His first love, Isolde, was the subject of our final argument three days before he passed away. I had no recollection of our last conversation.
His remarks, "You're just delusional," lingered in my mind.
"Am I crazy? You reconnected with her in secret, and I know it! Unfortunately, no one paid attention to the cries and screams.
I was about to lose it when that happened, so I went to stay with a friend for a few days and abandoned the pack house where the Luna and Alpha were supposed to live.
He continued to act as if I was irate, and there he was. I vanished for days because Reymond thought I was afraid to face him yet.
While I was taking notes, Isolde swung in unannounced, clad only in her nightgown.
"Alpha..." That she had a seductive voice was obvious. As she met his gaze, her own trembling lips matched his. I am frightened because a thunderstorm is predicted for tonight. Will you remain by my side?
On occasion, I noticed that Reymond's fist would clench and release, as if he were attempting to control his libido. It was so contemptible, and it happened even when I was in my spirit form. He had been clearly enticed.
Isolde, I am mated. Visiting your room is inconvenient for me.
"But you can come to the pack house," he added, just as I was beginning to believe he was displaying some common sense. This is not her home.
Something about what she heard shocked even Isolde. Peer at these creatures. Are you certain, Alpha? Imagine if she reappears out of nowhere. We would be at a loss for words.
A snort escaped my lips. She was completely aware of her actions, yet she pretended not to know anything. My body would only move through the air if I tried to tug on her hair right this second.
I was definitely dead, you know.
Reymond wanted to know, "What's important for us to convey to her?" You are a part of the Moon Howlers, and this is my pack. She doesn't have the last say.
It was clear from his voice alone that he was very confident. The desire to exact revenge nearly made me want to prolong my stay. "If only I could intervene unilaterally. Plus, she has no intention of returning.
"How do you know?" Isolde inquired after a brief period of silence and a furrowed brow as she heard that. A trace of anxiety was audible in her voice.
After a moment of self-awareness, she blurted out, "I mean, did Aurelia get mad at you again?"
"Yeah, on the celebration of our 10th year of meeting each other, I told her I was going to see you, but she got angry." With a sigh, he tousled his hair.
Take a look at this naive Alpha. On the strength of his little brain, he was able to take the lead? His infidelity was staring me in the face; how could I remain calm? I thought it was perfectly acceptable to feel that way.
"It's really annoying. Even though we're already mated, she never stops being suspicious! Even though I made her Luna, she still thinks it's not enough! Isolde, I am not like you. Over the years, you've endured a great deal without ever once grumbling. Right now, I should be saying sorry to you.
The sound of his voice nearly made me laugh. After having sexual relations with another woman, no rational person would return to their first love to celebrate a decade of marriage. It is ironic that they celebrated my death on the same day. It sank so deeply into my being that it enraged me to the point of rage.
Are you intending to honor my passing or celebrate your anniversary next year with Isolde, Reymond?
I seriously doubt he would pick me.
--- The woman practically leaped into the arms of the Alpha as soon as he locked the bedroom door as soon as they arrived at the pack house. "Alpha, it's so dark and creepy outside, I'm freaking out!"
When I saw that appalling scene, I had to suppress a cringe. Every night was pitch black, and I'd never seen her so terrified.
As a comforting gesture, Reymond embraced her and patted her on the back. "Don't worry, I'm here." He was actually buying into the she-wolf's performance.
He proudly displayed the emergency candles he had purchased, evidently intended to soothe her anxiety. "With these, even if the power goes out in a storm, we'll still have light," said he.
Isolde rested her head on his shoulder and let out a sigh. "My dear Alpha, you're my hero."
Somehow, I was able to observe them behaving in this manner. Had this been their practice from the beginning? I would never dream of asking! Without a doubt... Where did I get the idea? Even though they would plainly act badly, they would simply stare at one other.
As the sun began to set and Isolde knew she needed to get some rest, she stomped into my bathroom, locked the door behind her, and proceeded to irresponsibly plunder my belongings. Every step she took was as confident as if she were Luna from the Moon Howlers Pack.
She didn't bother to replace the caps correctly after she was done, leaving everything in a disarray.
A small laugh escaped her lips. "Oh, Aurelia won't mind, she's not coming back anyway."
Transparently, I observed Isolde in the mirror. As lightning flashed, a figure appeared on the floor as thunder rumbled outside. There it wasmy image, flashed before her eyes, and I could swear I looked savage and furious.
Isolde was taken aback to the point of stunning at that very moment, and before I knew it, she was yelling for my mate in a panic.
Reymond sprang into action like a hero as soon as he heard the piercing screams, rushing in to protect her from the terrifying creature.
Reymond, would you harm me in this state as well?
"What transpired?" Are you in any pain?
With muttering, Isolde quavered under his weight, No, no. Perhaps this is too dangerous, I simply thought. What if your spouse decides to drop by...
But Reymond did nothing more than shrug. "I dont know."
The icy light of the lightning pierced his vision as he lifted his eyes to the sky. She has no authority to speak, even if she did. We would still be together today if she hadn't caused you to abandon me so long ago.
After the alpha kissed the woman on the forehead and let out a sigh, the woman began to relax. She is not a concern for you. I will not allow her to harm you in any way. She is completely unimportant to me.
It is my intention to grant your wish, my beloved Alpha. I hope you maintain your apathy and lack of concern until the end.
The Consul continued to hammer me with his case at the Moon Howlers Pack in the wee hours of the morning. In the middle of the gathering, Beta Harry requested a brief recess. Reason enough for Reymond to go get a sandwich.
As an elder poked fun at him, she asked, "How's it going being a mated Alpha without having a decrease in the number of she-wolves interested in you?" Alpha, you should let us handle some women. "Speaking of, how is Luna Aurelia?" the elder man asked with a hearty laugh. She dropped off your midnight snack, didn't she?"
My name made Reymond's face turn black, and he dropped his sandwich on the table. "Why even mention her? "It's horrible."
Close by, Harry could feel the tension, but he was just as intrigued. "Alpha, I'm curious as well. We haven't seen the Luna for quite some time. Whenever you pulled an all-nighter, she would show up with snacks.
Reymond merely glanced in his direction. The point of eating all those snacks is to fill your stomach, right? Is your hunger still burning?
After hearing him out, Harry's face became grave. "I mean, come on, is Luna all right? Has she... vanished?
At that, Reymond let out a snort. Is something missing? It is likely that she is currently attempting to cool off. That woman is like an obnoxious puppy; she never fails to infuriate me. I mean, she hasn't said a word in two days, so why do we keep bringing her up?
I grinned from the sidelines. My dear Alpha, you would no longer be subject to my persistent nagging, would you? Wow, that's great news! If this man knew the truth about my death, I'd bet he'd celebrate.
The alpha! We found out who the victim was, Alpha Reymond! A pack healer stormed in, his expression a hideous jumble of feelings. His message seemed like it might cause a global upheaval.
Harry took the initiative to approach the pack healer first. "I think Alpha Reymond needs to know first..."
Looked up, perplexed, was Reymond. "Why should it be me? Please inform my Beta first, as he is responsible for supervising all aspects of this case. Just let him know.
The pack healer drew nearer to the Beta's ear and spilled the beans, seemingly compelled to comply with orders.
In that very moment, Harry's face shifted from a look of astonishment to one of intense seriousness. "W-What... Are you sure?"
He was disappointed to see that the healer merely nodded to indicate agreement.
The beta As he inquired, "Have you been in touch with the Luna lately?" Harry looked into the pack leader's bloodshot eyes.
Despite his confusion, Reymond explained, "Yes, she even talked to me using our mindlink a few days ago." It was as though he was reliving every detail of our past interactions.
Some days? How many days has passed since then?
For Reymond, it all became clear when Harry posed that question. The dawn of realization caused my mate's eyes to widen. With shaking hands, he leaped out of his chair. "What do you mean?"
