Love to the End and See the Light Again
My daughter, Elaine, suddenly fell ill at school. There was no taxi available due to a snowstorm blocking the roads, so I had to ask Colt Simpson to take me there.
Just before departure, he received a call and said that the investor wanted to see him and asked me to go to school by myself.
I braved the snow and took my daughter to the hospital. She was already cold.
I held my daughter's body in my arms, in agony.
I called Colt more than a dozen times before someone answered the call.
"Hello, who is this? Colt has already gone to bed. If you have anything to say, please tell me. I'll tell him tomorrow."
It turned out that this was the investor that Colt was going to meet.
This was his ex-girlfriend, Amy Lane.
I hung up the phone trembling, deleted the number and turned off the phone.
Ten days later, I returned home. Colt looked disdainful.
"You are back. I thought you could be tougher this time and hold on for a few more days."
"Colt, let's get a divorce."
Colt and I had known each other since we were young. Our grandfathers wanted to arrange a marriage for their children, but unfortunately both of them had sons, so they wanted Colt and me to get married.
We went to school together. I saw him and Amy dating. And I also saw Amy dump him and go abroad.
I had a crush on Colt when I was seventeen years old. We got together when we were twenty, got secretly married when we were twenty-five, and had a daughter when I was twenty-seven. Now my daughter was six years old. Sixteen years had passed.
In these sixteen years, whether I had a cold and a fever, or my water suddenly broke and went to the hospital to give birth to my daughter, I didn't dare trouble him.
Colt was an actor, and we were still in a secret marriage. I dared not relax at all for fear of affecting his image and his career.
This was the first time in so many years that I asked him for help so humbly, but he just left me indifferently.
For sixteen years, I had exhausted my most precious youth.
Sixteen years later, I thought he had long forgotten Amy.
For sixteen years, I thought that as long as I persevered, he would change.
Unfortunately, I lost.
Because of my self-indulgence and my wishful thinking, my daughter lost her life.
She must hate me.
"Divorce? Myrna, you want to divorce me? Even if you want a divorce, I can't give you our daughter!"
He said sarcastically.
The word "daughter" hurt my heart.
"Just stop making trouble. I have found a doctor who can perform surgery on Elaine."
I ignored him. Elaine would never be with him in her life.
I turned around and went back to the house, took out my ID card, and walked out.
"Today, we are getting divorced."
He looked at the document in my hand, frowning.
"Are you serious?"
I looked at him. My eyes sore. "Colt, have I ever troubled you with any trivial matters over the years?"
Colt's expression changed slightly. "No."
I smiled and cried.
"Just this once. The only time.
"Is it true you were meeting with investors that day?"
Colt might have felt guilty. After a long silence, he said, "I'm sorry. If you have any problems in the future, just tell me. I will never break my promise."
I said, "Colt, this is the first time I've heard you apologize in sixteen years, but I will never forgive you in my life."
Colt was about to say something when he was interrupted by the sudden ringing of his cell phone. After answering the call, he left in a hurry without paying any attention to me behind him.
He had just left when I received a call from the cemetery.
"Ms. Yale, a psychopath came to the cemetery today and dug up your daughter's grave. We have called the police."
I was so angry that I was shaking. I took a taxi and rushed over.
The cemetery staff was waiting for me at the gate and apologized to me as soon as he saw me.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Yale. It was our mistake. She said she wanted to check the grave herself when she bought it, but we didn't expect her to dig it up directly. I'm sorry!"
"Where are the people?"
He said, "They are still at the cemetery. The police are also here, waiting for you to mediate."
I jogged over with the staff and saw from afar Amy crying and Colt coaxing her. The staff and police were speechless.
"Ms. Yale, that's her."
I was shaking all over, clenched my fists and rushed in, slapping Amy hard on the face. When I tried to slap her again, I was stopped by a policeman nearby.
Amy was knocked dizzy by me. Colt protected her before she spoke.
He said, "Myrna, are you following me?
"Are you crazy? Why did you hit her?"
Amy covered her face and leaned in Colt's arms. "Myrna, don't get me wrong. I had just returned that day, and Pag was dying, so I asked Colt to go see her for the last time. Today I came to find a grave for Pag. They refused to sell the cemetery I wanted. These lunatics even wanted to beat me, so I asked Colt to come."
I know that Pag Amy mentioned was a dog.
It was a dog that they raised together.
I suddenly felt it was ironic that Colt went to see his dog for the last time, but he didn't even see his daughter for the last time.
After hearing what Colt and Amy said, the police thought we knew each other, so they let me go.
I looked at the scattered soil that had been dug up, and the mess that the small garden I had arranged for my daughter was in.
My daughter likes flowers, but I couldn't buy fresh flowers in the cold winter. I flew to other city myself to bring her this wreath made of dozens of different kinds of flowers. I was sure she would like it very much.
But now, it was all destroyed.
I looked at Colt, gritted my teeth, and ignoring my numb hands, slapped Colt hard.
"Colt, you are a jerk."
The police quickly grabbed me and persuaded me, "It has already happened, Ms. Yale. Don't be angry. Let's talk about how to solve it first."
Hearing the police's words, Colt asked, "Did you buy this cemetery?"
I didn't reply. The staff member next to me said, "Mr. Simpson, this cemetery was bought by Ms. Yale. Do you know her?"
Colt looked at the policeman beside him.
"Thank you, sir. This is my wife."
The police and cemetery staff looked at each other, then at me.
I said, "I'm sorry. We are still married, but I don't know the young lady. I want her to apologize."
"Myrna, don't go too far."
In response to Colt's rebuke, I sneered.
Colt frowned. "Why did you buy a cemetery? And you decorated it like this. Who are you planning to give it to? For Elaine? Myrna, you curse your daughter?
"Even if Elaine is dying, I can save her. This cemetery is not needed. I will give it to Pag."
Listening to his confident words, I suddenly burst into laughter. Tears flowed down my cheeks.
