She went for the learning system and married an intellectual. I had no choice but to go with the useless storage space system. Then, I was forced to marry a thug. A very rude and crass one at that.
Thanks to the storage space system, I got through a famine and became the village's richest person. My sister's learning system was useless, and she almost died of starvation.
Driven by jealousy, my sister seduced my husband and slept with him. To get my wealth, they came up with a plan and pushed me down a cliff.
When I came to, I realized we'd returned to the day we awakened our systems.
My sister shoved me away and picked the useless storage space system. "Move, you bitch! Now I have your system! I'll survive the famine and get rich! You'll live in my shadow forever, as you should!"
She was so smug. She was gloating. I took the learning system and smiled to myself.
Unbeknownst to my sister, I got rich during the famine, not because of the system, and my dream was to score high on the exam and get into a good college.
My sister managed to mess up her life even when she had the better system. Now she took the useless one. I could practically see the misery waving at her down the path.
Chapter 1 Reborn
"I choose the storage space system this time!"
That was the first thing I heard when I woke up. The hurried voice of my sister, Christina Lawson. My body should be screaming in pain, but it was not. It was then, realization struck me.
I was reborn.
In my previous life, my sister and I unlocked our own systems. The setting? The nation decades ago.
My parents had spoiled my sister rotten since she was young. She picked the best cheat, the learning system. Eventually, she married the village's most famous intellectual and had a bright future ahead of her.
I was left with the scraps she did not want, the storage space system. It was useless. I had to marry the infamous thug in the village and spent a lot of my life living in the shadows like some sort of sewer rat.
Eventually, the famine came, and things changed. Drastically.
I noticed the famine before it got worse and stocked up on a lot of food in my storage system. Thanks to that, I got through the famine and sold off my food. That propelled me to the village's richest woman status.
My sister, however, complained when she saw the mountain of homework her system prepared for her. She never wanted to work and get money. The famine almost starved her to death.
My successful life was a stark contrast to her grey and miserable one. Yet I kindly sponsored her so she could take the exam.
However, my sister screamed at me about how I was humiliating her. Hatred buried itself in her heart. She seduced my thug of a husband and worked with him to push me off a cliff, all to get my money.
My bones were smashed, and the phantom pain, I swore, remained in my body. I stared at her face. It was the one that seduced my husband. Fury swelled in my chest. "No, that system is"
I was cut off. She slapped me across the face so hard, I fell to the ground.
Once she took the system, she stomped on me. "You do not get to say no, you bitch!" And she stomped on my face again. "This is your place! Beneath me, forever! I will use the storage space system and become the richest woman after the famine, while you will die in it!"
This was before the famine. Thanks to my parents, my sister had a strong body, yet her eyes were dripping with venom and jealousy.
My parents never liked me. I was weak, and I could never take her head on. She grabbed the learning system's books and hurled them on my body. The corners of the books crashed into my flesh and left bruises on my skin.
Smugly yet also with disdain, she looked at me. "The storage space is mine, the food is mine, and the money is mine! I will have all the best things in the world! You'll die in the famine, but chew on the books while you can."
She left in a hurry, but I picked up the books and smiled to myself. I thought, 'Oh, Christina, bet you never thought my lifelong dream was to take the exam and get into a college. My success had nothing to do with the storage space. You can never replicate it.'
My sister managed to mess up her life even with the best cheat in her possession. What a fool. Now, she chose the useless system. Perfect. If I was right, that was misery waving at her down the path.
Chapter 2 Cruel Family
"No! I cannot let you marry that thug! I will not! You're my precious daughter!"
Christina held our mother's hand and swayed it. She cooed, "John Doe is not a thug, Mom! He's an honest farmer. Strong and brave too! You can't insult him!"
Oh God, her cloying voice almost made me throw up. Unbelievable. She must know no shame if she could twist a crass thug like John into an honest farmer. She thought his violence was strength and courage?
I knew why she picked John all of a sudden. In my previous life, I kept the food in my storage space, but cooking in a famine was more obvious than fire in the night. The starving people gathered their forces and tried to take my food away.
John, being a thug, would never let anyone take his food. Thanks to me, he had full meals all the time. With his size and strength, he fought the starving people off, and there were dozens of them. Thanks to him, our food was safe.
Christina was one of the leaders of those people. John beat her up pretty badly, and that left a mark in more ways than one. This time, she wanted to copy me and marry him.
Christina promised, "It's okay, Mom. John is going to come in handy, I swear. I didn't make this decision out of nowhere. Just let me have this! When you find out how useful he is, you'll be glad I married him. I'm not going to marry anyone else! Just him! Mom, please!"
My mother refused to see her daughter marry a thug. Not her beloved daughter, anyway. "I thought you liked Zacharias. You wanted to marry him! Look at him, he's perfect. Handsome and runs a family-owned food store. Why'd you suddenly want to marry John?"
Zacharias Shaw. The mere mention of that name made Christina frown. She was reminded of her past life. Zacharias refused to join her criminal activity. Thanks to that, she suffered all of John's blows. She thought Zacharias was inflexible and stupid. The mention of that name alone frustrated her.
"There's nothing good about him. He's weak. Sure, he's better at reading, but compared to John, he's nothing! Besides"
Christina's eyes darted around. She was coming up with something venomous. And then she looked at me, her eyes dripping with malice. "Catherine hooked up with him. I won't take anything that bitch has touched. Disgusting."
"I"
Before I could even defend myself, my mother slapped my face. Blood trickled out of my mouth. "So you destroyed my daughter's marriage? How dare you! You know she likes Zacharias, and you seduced him? What would people think if they found out?"
