Fiancée, Unwavering to Her Abusive Ex until Death
On the day I was supposed to marry my fiance, her ex-husband got out of prison.
She always claimed that scumbag had traumatized her, leaving her with trauma, and kept getting in the way of her marrying me.
But at our wedding, she left me alone and ran off to reconnect with her ex, even though the guy was a cheater and an abusive drunk who gambled away everything.
He even beat her so badly that she lost their baby.
Yet, she still loved him.
The two of them even pulled a con game, constantly tricking me into giving them money.
She thought she was so clever, but hey, Im not an idiot, okay?!
On our wedding day, her ex, Tyler, was released.
I waited at the wedding venue with family and friends for three hours, but she never showed.
Eventually, Emilys parents arrived late, rushing to apologize and claiming shed been called into the hospital for an emergency surgery.
I knew they were lying to save face because Emily had bailed on me to pick up Tyler from prison.
Someone had already sent me photos of them shopping, eating, and laughing together.
My name is James Miller, and Emily was my fiance.
We grew up together as childhood sweethearts.
Emily was gorgeous, smart, and excelled at everythinga real catch in our middle-class circle.
After high school, we got into the same college, and our parents even arranged our engagement early.
It seemed like after graduation, wed settle down, have kids, and live a quiet, happy lifethe future seemed set in stone for us.
But out of nowhere, during our junior year, Emily fell in love with a jerk from the trade school next door.
It all started at one night.
When she was walking back to campus late, and some drunk guys harassed herthis guy Tyler stepped in and "saved" her.
After that, she started skipping classes to hang out with Tyler, hitting bars, going clubbing, and riding around on his loud motorcycle.
She said being with Tyler made her feel free and alive in a way she never had before.
She even defied her parents, threatening to leave them forever, just to marry him.
After Tyler graduated from trade school, he lazed around at home, refusing to work.
Emily slaved away at her job, pouring all her earnings into supporting him.
Then she got pregnant, and with no income, they lived in a poor life..
Tylers attitude shifted fasthed flirt with other women right in front of her and started beating her.
Her body was covered in cigarette burns from him.
Once, he went too far and punched her so hard that she miscarried.
Our families called the police, and Tyler ended up in prison.
We thought wed saved Emily from a nightmare, but she didnt see it that way.
Over the years, I felt sorry for all shed been through, so I treated her gently and patiently, asking her to marry me for several times.
But shed always hem and haw, making excuses about being too traumatized by Tyler to ever trust marriage again.
Turns out, all that "trauma" was a lie.
In those photos of her and Tyler shopping, she was clinging to his arm, grinning like a lovesick foolclearly over the moon.
Emilys parents begged me to wait, saying theyd found her and take her to the wedding soon.
I glanced at the guests, gave a bitter laugh, and said
"Forget it. Im calling off the wedding."
Emilys parents called her dozens of times before she finally rushed in.
Instead of looking guilty, she blew up at me,
"Whats your problem? I told you Im afraid of marriage! The thought of wearing a wedding dress and saying vows would kill me!
Don't you understand?
Did you have to humiliate my family in front of everyone? What do you even take me for?"
Staring at her, I scoffed inwardly.
What had I taken her for all these years? She knew damn well.
I felt deep sympathy for her scars and the misfortune of meeting the wrong people.
In daily life, I treated her with the utmost care, holding her gently in my palms like a fragile treasure.
When she said marriage scared her, I waited without complaint for five years.
But what did she take me for?
A temporary placeholder after Tylers arrest?
A shield against her parents pushing her to remarry?
I gripped my phone, itching to shove those photos in her face and ask for her excuse.
But I held back.
I wanted to see how far shed take this actwhat her next move would be.
I fired back, "So, are we still having this wedding or not?"
I paused, then added, "If you really dont want to marry me, lets just cancel it and pretend it never happened."
I figured shed take the chance and run straight to Tyler.
But instead, she looked down, being silent for a moment, then said,
"Well have the wedding, but we should delay it a few days. There are conditions we need to discuss."
I raised an eyebrow. "What conditions?"
Emily fidgeted with her hair, avoiding eye contact with me.
"You know Ive been through a horrible marriage. Im hurt, James. I cant handle any more risk or pain. So"
She met my gaze and asked me tentatively, "I need you to give me real security."
I bit back a laugh. "What kind of security?"
She said, "Give me thirty thousand dollars first. I want to buy more jewelry."
For marrying her, Id already bought her a full set of gold, and my mom gifted her a pair of priceless jade bracelets.
But clearly, that wasnt enough. And I had a hunch that thirty grand wasnt for jewelry.
Even her parents were appalled.
"Emily, are you crazy? Why more jewelry? The Millers have given you plenty!"
She brushed them off impatiently.
"You dont get it! Gold holds its value! Holding gold before marriage gives me security! Its just thirty thousandyou can afford it, right?"
She plopped on the couch and declared
"If youve got the money, give it to me now. Ill think of other terms later."
No way was I giving her a dime or marrying her.
I made an excuse: "My parents are furious you stood me up. I need to talk this over with them."
Emily nodded. "Fine. Call me when youve decided."
Then she grabbed her purse and walked out carelessly, without a backward glance.
Emily took Tyler to our wedding apartmentthe one my parents bought for us.
Before that, shed called to ask, "Are you coming over tonight?"
I said, "No. My moms heart is acting up because of the wedding disaster. Im staying with them. Besides, you hate having me around, remember?"
Shed always refused to live in the apartement with her, claiming she wasnt comfortable alone with a man.
But she didnt know Id installed a hidden camera in the living room to supervise the renovation.
Now, there she was, cuddled up with Tyler on the couchthe same woman who swore she had "trauma" around men.
They were making out, like fire sparkling gasoline.
When I mentioned my mom almost got heart disease because of her, Emily just shrugged and said
"Then dont come. Im going to bed. Call me after you sort out the thirty thousand."
She hung up before I could reply.
On the camera feed, I watched her dive into Tylers arms for a kiss the second she ended the call.
She whined, "Babe, I swear I didnt mean to get you arrested!I told the cops I fell down the stairs myself, but they didnt listen! I even hired lawyers to help yousee how much I love you?
Lets just be happy now that youre out."
Watching them, I felt sick.
So this was the "trauma" shed cried about?
Tyler was just out of the prison, and she was already glued to him, blaming on us for calling the cops?
Tyler played with her fingers, smirking. "I know it was Jamess doing. Hes jealouswanted to steal you from me."
Emily nuzzled him.
"Exactly! Thats why Ive been lying to him along all these years, pretending to be his girlfriend to torture him. But babe, what if he actually gives us the thirty grand?"
The money wasnt for wedding bellsit was to bankroll her darling ex.
Fresh out of prison, Tyler had nothing.
But he wasnt satisfied.
"Thirty k? Thats pocket change. We should get more. James is obsessed with youmilk him dry. Its what he owes us for ruining our lives!"
He spun it like a hero: "If he hadnt snitched, Id have made something of myself by now! This is compensation!"
Then he brainwashed her: "Its all for you, baby. With money, you wont have to work. And we need a kidthat costs cash too. Dont you want a family with me?"
Emily teared up. "Yes, I dream about it."
She placed his hand on her stomach. "A baby would make us complete."
Tyler smiled. "So, you marry him at first, take his money, then divorce. Hes so in love, hell give you half in the settlement. Well be set for life."
I nearly vomited and called my bank immediately.
Wed set up a joint account for wedding fundswith me as the primary holder.
I reported the card stolen and froze it.
Emily noticed fast, calling me in a rage, "James, what the hell? Whyd you freeze the account?"
I coolly replied, "My parents said no to the extra thirty thousand. So were done."
She was stunned. After being silent for few second, she shouted, "What? Thirty grand is nothing to you! Youve spent millions! Is money more important than me?"
She was still draped over Tyler as she said it.
I screenshot the camera feed and texted back
"Emily, its not about the money. Its about loyalty.Think about it. How long have we dragged this out? You keep moving the goalposts. Then you didnt even come to our wedding! If you were me, how would you feel?"
I added, "My parents are forcing me to choosethem or you. I cant throw away my family. Youre free now. Lets settle accounts and go our separate ways."
