The Good Samaritan Trap

The emergency call came in, but the dorm supervisor, Mrs. Henderson, blocked the way.

You're a man! Think you're just gonna waltz into the women's dorm? Dream on!

I pleaded urgently.

In an emergency, there are no genders, just patients!

I pushed past her, sprinting upstairs, and managed to save the girl in time.

But then she turned against me.

"It's this incompetent doctor's fault! His slow response gave me lasting damage!"

"And while he was 'saving' me, his hands were all over me!"

That whole holiday season, my family and I were crucified online. The pressure was crushing.

I couldn't take it anymore. I eventually jumped to my death.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back, facing the same Mrs. Henderson.

This time, I wasn't in a hurry.

After all, the girl gasping for breath upstairs was her own daughter!

"I said no, and I mean no! Men don't belong up there!"

Mrs. Henderson snapped, refusing to unlock the door.

"Men only think with their pants. Letting you into the women's dorm is like tossing a fox into the henhouse!"

I stared at her, masking the shock and bitter recognition flooding through me.

"Dr. Miller, we have to do something! The patient's suffering from respiratory alkalosis!"

The nurse behind me sounded frantic.

I snapped back to the present.

"Well, she won't let us in. What can we do?"

The nurse gaped at me, clearly stunned.

This wasn't like me at all.

In my past life, I'd broken through that door with others and rushed up to save the girl.

I won her back, only to be destroyed by her lies.

This time, I wouldn't let that happen again.

Remembering exactly who I was dealing with, I murmured to the nurse,

"Get your phone out. Record this. Be discreet."

Once the camera was on, I stepped forward.

"If we miss the critical window for treatment, that young woman could suffer permanent consequences."

Mrs. Henderson sneered.

"You could talk till you're blue in the face, mister. No man's setting foot in my dorm!"

She scanned our little group,

"Frankly, you look shifty! How do I know you're even real doctors?"

I felt ice in my veins, but kept my face urgent.

"Can you live with yourself if she dies because you blocked us?"

She smirked.

"Rules are rules. Whether she lives or dies is fate."

The nurse behind me couldn't stay silent.

"You're just a gatekeeper! Blocking us is practically murder!"

Mrs. Henderson's eyes narrowed, her authority challenged.

"What's it to you, huh? You his little mistress or something? So eager."

"Look down on me? Ha! You're just hired help!"

Tears welled up in the nurse's eyes.

I stepped in front of her.

"Mistress? Don't project your own trashy thoughts onto others. Let us through! There's a student dying upstairs!"

Mrs. Henderson flushed crimson, and she started yelling.

"I said NO!Is this about saving a life or ogling girls? Disgusting!"

I raised my hands calmly.

"Let's all stay calm."

The nurse whispered urgently,

"Dr. Miller, time's running out."

I sighed, playing reasonable.

"Alright. What would it take for you to let us in?"

"Call the Dean. If he says okay, fine by me."

"Fine,"I said, keeping my voice level.

"Give us the Dean's number then."

She stayed silent.

The nurse and I called everyone we knew until we finally got the number.

"Dr. Miller, it's going straight to voicemail!"

Mrs. Henderson smirked.

"No answer? Well, there is another way"

I stayed silent.

The nurse pressed,

"Well? Spit it out!"

She pointed at me.

"He gets down on his knees and begs me."

"What's the big deal? You wanna save a life, don't you? A little kneeling won't kill ya."

She pulled out another handful of seeds, cracking them open.

The nurse fumed.

"I'll report you for this!"

The supervisor barked back,

"Forget him. You kneel to me, and I'll let you up."

The nurse's face flushed with rage.

"You're unbelievable!"

Mrs. Henderson's tone turned mocking.

"Thought you were angels of mercy? Someone's dying up there! Why aren't you rushing to the rescue? Hypocrites!"

The nurse looked at me, helpless.

I gave a tiny shake of my head.

Mrs. Henderson cackled.

"I see! This was never about saving anyone. You just want to impress him, don't you?"

I opened my mouth to retort, but a frantic voice cut me off.

A student came tearing down the stairs, gasping for breath, grabbing Mrs. Henderson's arm.

"Mrs. H! She's really bad! You have to let them in!"

Mrs. Henderson shook her off.

"Rules. Are. Rules."

The student stomped in frustration.

"Mrs. H, please! It's it's"

Mrs. Henderson said flatly.

"Even if it were my own dear mother up there, rules are rules!"

The student's desperate eyes found mine. She lunged for the door.

"Doctor! Please! My roommate's dying! I'll let you in!"

She fumbled for the lock.

Mrs. Henderson yanked her back and shoved her.

The girl fell hard to the floor, clutching her wrist in pain.

"You little tramp! You see a man and lose your backbone too?"

Mrs. Henderson spat.

"Trying to let him in? Shameless bitch!"

Seeing the girl's pain, a wave of pity washed over me.

The student struggled to her feet, leaning against the wall.

"Mrs. H the one upstairs it's Hailey"

Before she could finish, Mrs. Henderson cut her off.

"Get back to your room! Now! Or I'll have you suspended!"

I'd had enough.

"A dorm matron? Handing out major violations? What authority do you actually have?"

Hearing my defiance, the student found her courage.

"Yeah! And I'm telling my parents you shoved me! And upstairs it's Hailey Henderson!"

Mrs. Henderson flushed crimson at the mention of parents, furious.

But hearing

"Hailey Henderson"

her face went sheet white.

"What?! My Hailey's sick? You stupid girl! Why didn't you say so sooner?!"
